Shipping, Returns and Care Guidance

Shipping and Packaging

All items will be packed securely and will be double boxed (except decorations). From experience this is the best way to pack to avoid breakages. By double boxing the internal box should not move when transported.

Most of my packaging is recyclable.

At present I only post to the UK. I use Royal Mail because I have found them to be the most reliable.  I use their 24 and 48 hour delivery service (this does not include weekends). The cost depends on the weight of the item and is automatically calculated on the checkout page.

I will do my best to package the items within 1-2 working days of receiving payment. I have tried to keep the cost of postage as low as possible.

There is also the option of collection in person.

Description of items for sale

Hopefully I have put enough information in each description so that you will have as much information about an item as possible before you purchase. Each item is unique and hand thrown (decorations are hand built). I do not make large batches so dimensions can vary from item to item. For example the dimensions of each mug may not be exactly the same but will be within a small range.  The photographs may be a representation of the item rather than the item itself.  Depending on where the pot is put in the kiln and the heat work in the kiln, the glazes will flow in a unique but similar way for each item.

If you have any questions about an item please contact me before purchasing and I will be happy to answer silksteadpottery@gmail.com

Returns

If you are unhappy with an item once you have received it please let me know so that I can look into the situation.

If returning an item returns must be made within 14 days of receiving the item.  Please make sure the item is packaged using the same or similar packaging (double boxed) as I will not be able to refund you for the item if it is broken during the return journey. Unless an item is faulty the cost of the return will be met by the purchaser.

Care advice

Many of the glazes I use I make myself and am satisfied that they are durable and food safe. If I use a brush-on glaze bought from a manufacturer that is also food safe.

All the pots I make are fully vitrified meaning that no water will leak through them.

I am often asked whether my pots can be put in the dishwasher.  Dishwashers use really strong alkaline cleaning tablets which can be very harsh on mugs and glasses. Although my pots are hardwearing, breakages/ chips could occur when putting in or removing a pot from a dishwasher or accidentally knocking against another pot. I do put some of my pots in the dishwasher but anything particularly precious to me I wash by hand.

For the same reasons I don’t put my pots in the microwave.

With some of my pots I leave the outside unglazed for decorative effect, for example some of my bowls. If you are using something like a curry sauce which has bright food colouring this may stain the bare clay. If the sauce spills on the bare clay I would suggest cleaning the sauce off the pot as soon as possible before it leaves a mark.
